Recent developments surrounding Easee chargers have caused some concern. We understand that this may raise questions and concerns. Therefore, with this article, we want to clarify the current situation and reassure you.
What's going on?
In March 2023, Sweden's electrical safety regulator, Elsäkerhetsverket (ESV), banned the sale and installation of Easee Home and Easee Charge charging stations in Sweden. A notable detail is that the director of ESV is co-owner and shareholder of a major local competitor of Easee. Oops!
The Belgian market regulator, BIPT, has indicated that they are following this decision by the Swedish authority. As a result, the sale and installation of these particular Easee chargers is prohibited in Belgium as of July 20, 2023. However, BIPT has not initiated a recall and is allowing customers to continue using the chargers. This suggests that use of the chargers is safe and that the problems are related to administrative issues or incorrect submission procedures rather than real safety problems.
What does this mean for you?
Your safety and satisfaction are of utmost importance to us. As a Blulinc customer, you can be confident that your installation is not only safe, but also extremely reliable. We have installed a Type A or B ground fault circuit interrupter, a component that provides an extra layer of protection, for almost all of our customers. These earth leakage circuit breakers are designed to protect your equipment from electrical shock by cutting off power in the event of overload or leakage currents. This provides an additional level of safety in our installations. Therefore, as a Blulinc customer, you can continue to use your Easee charger with complete peace of mind.
What will the future bring?
Easee has announced that they will soon launch three new models. One of these models, the Easee Lite, does not have a built-in ground fault circuit interrupter. This means it must always be installed with a type A or B ground fault circuit interrupter. And may thus be sold and installed on today.
Important Update: Situation Around Easee Chargers and Regularization of Charging Stations
Regularization of Charging Stations
In December 2023, the Belgian government announced a new regularization procedure for electric charging stations installed before July 17, 2023. Under this regulation, even previously disapproved charging stations will be re-evaluated and re-inspected if necessary. This move is an important development to ensure the safety and reliability of the existing charging infrastructure throughout Belgium.
